These cutting boards were made of bubinga and hard maple leftover from other projects. (The bubinga is the dark wood, while the hard maple is the light wood.) The bubinga kept "tearing out" as it went through my planer, so I had to take both boards to a friend's millwork shop to run them through a drum sander in order to get a perfectly flat surface.
