Replacing ceiling fans is a common task, but quite often the homeowner wants a ceiling fan on a ceiling where there is no power at present. Occasionally, the request is made for a 17' or even taller ceiling. This one is almost 18'. Normally, with a ceiling this tall, I recommend a 36" or longer downrod, but these people have a spectacular view from the loft hallway, so in order to preserve it, we went with the factory-supplied 6" downrod.
Naturally, an installation like this takes longer than a standard 8' ceiling....
